Afrika Handmade Gallery: Homegrown Artisan + Design 2.0

We have began to cross out the dates…the countdown in on!

Come October 2, we will usher you into Afrika Handmade Gallery, a tastefully curated installation of Kenya’s freshest homegrown artisan and design brands in interior decor.

From Machakos to Nanyuki, we have scoured the country and are very proud to present

  • 1 prefab living pod
  • New home decor + home textiles + garden product collections
  • 1 contemporary art gallery featuring artists from across the region

Beyond creating the most charming display of lighting, indoor & outdoor furniture, handwoven blankets & throws, objet d’art and much much more, the event aims to turn on its head, the not-so-flattering perception of the sector.

For a long time, the artisan and design sector has been described using adjectives such as ‘tardy’, ‘under par quality’, ‘uninspiring.’

Afrika Handmade Gallery seeks to shift this narrative by offering an experience that is as far away from this perception as possible and in the process, tease out new market opportunities.

We have hand picked the exhibitors, opted for an integrated display rather than stall setups, incorporated wall, floor and window treatments so you can see how it would fit in your home, asked all exhibitors to create collections exclusively for the Gallery and the cherry on the cake? A fabulous exhibition catalog packed with content on the exhibitors, interior decor and the sector at large.

In short, we can promise (nay guarantee) you this – an experience that will make your visit every bit worth it!

So make a date with us on Sunday 2 October for the opening weekend of the Gallery. We open doors at 10am, but the real fun is in the afternoon, where we have lined up live performances, great food, art activities for the young ones and an ‘easy-like-Sunday’ outdoorsy vibe at the Alliance Francaise garden. Entry is free.

If you would like to visit us during the week, we are open 9 – 6pm everyday (including weekends) and to make it easier to get to us, we have partnered with Uber so you don’t have to worry about the hassle of parking space.

All exhibition pieces will be up for sale on the closing weekend of the Gallery, 15/16 October. It will be our early Christmas gift to you… because everything must go!
